A group of four teenage girls are going away for the summer, each one to a different place. They decide to send a worn pair of jeans to follow each one of them; each will mail the pants to the next in turn, and write down her favorite adventure on the leg. This is a shameless narrative framing device that allows us to follow each girl as she faces her conflicts on her part of the trip. Lena, in Greece, accuses a young Adonis of spying on her skinny-dipping; Tibby finds her filmmaking apprentice has leukemia; Bridget gets in over her head with a soccer camp coach; Carmen discovers that her divorced father has a new fiance and family. The pants weave their stories together.
